Well, I did not win one of the top prizes, but a local art critique
had some very nice words for me:

Here is the highlighted part about my work enlarged:

... and a comment posted on my ArtPrize page, from another ArtPrize 2011 artist:

"ArtPrize 2011"
ArtPrize is a unique international art competition. It takes place this year from September 21 - October 2, throughout the fine city of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
A lot of prize money will be awarded. First place is $250,000! Second is $150,000, third $50,000 and 4th - 10th $7,000 each.
1,582 artists will have one piece each at loads of venues throughout the city including museums, restaurants, churches, offices and even outdoors. My piece is at the Grand Rapids Public Museum.
The general public will determine the winners through voting. To vote you must register in person, in the city, during ArtPrize. The actual voting is by text or online.
During the first week, Sept. 21- 28, each registered voter can vote 'thumbs up' for any number of artists. Then the top 10 are announced and each registered voter can vote once, for their favorite of those top 10.
If you visit ArtPrize go to the Public Museum and vote for me!

Hints on planning your trip to ArtPrize:
If driving to Grand Rapids, I suggest you park at Meijer's Gardens (where you can also see 25 artist's work), no charge to park. Register to vote at no charge inside the main building, buy an "ArtPrize Guide & map" to find all the artists and venues for $15, and an "ArtPrize Metro Pass" for $2.50. (or just the Art Prize Metro Pass for $5)
From Meijer's Gardens ride the ArtPrize Metro shuttle to the Public Museum stop. This stop is closest to the most dense area of exhibits: Grand Rapids Public Museum with 38 artists including me, Grand Rapids Art Museum with 32 artists, Gerald Ford Presidential Museum with 23 artists, GVSU Exhibition Center with 29 artists, the JW Marriott with 17 artists and the DeVos Place Convention Center with 63 artists.
After visiting these contiguous locations and getting the hang of the whole event you should be able to navigate your way around town to view the rest. Your ArtPrize Metro shuttle will take you to other stops throughout the exhibit area and back to Meijer Gardens. The ArtPrize Guide and map mentioned above are extremely helpful.
Have fun and vote YES! for # 42931
